Old news, but news somehow …. Conference presentation ideas.

So, I started talking (all vaguely like) how my Ex came up to visit me while he was in the state for his conference on culture and trends and things … so we were on the phone the other night and he started to tell me about the presentations he thought I'd be interested in. There was one on SecondLife, since I play there a lot and he thought it was cool … but tha'ts not the one that really got me…

There was one on the theology behind The Lord of the Rings … the presenter argued that the trinity was Gandalf, Frodo and Aragorn using Augustianian theology. Augustianian theology speaks strongly about the great depravity of man, but also that everything has to do with God's grace.

well, let me try this again, the idea is that After the Fall of the watchers in Genesis 6 humans can't NOT sin so free will isn't what it appears to be. We've become slaves to sin and God has to condem all of us because of it. However, God can save everyone and God must intervene. This is the Doctrine of Total Depravity. but Grace is also very important too because Gods grace is free and it doesn't matter what the human does because this is just something we're drawn too and something that we can't pull away from. Once that Grace is shown faith in Christ soon follows. God already decided whos going to save waaaaaaaaaay before people were even created … It doesn't matter anything else that you do, try, or even foreknowledge….Grace comes and faith in Christ follows. Christ in this case being Frodo, Gandalf being the Spirit and Aragorn being in the place of God.

Ok. this is total crap to me, I mean it has a great base for a paper and Im sure this PH.D level person who wrote it is totally brilliant … oh, did I mention that I pulled all of that out of my ass on the phone to Victor without him being even able to pick at this? I just figured it all out with no help? I forget I'm good at this.

Well, when I listened to that … and later as I was talking it out to him, I feel that we're really working with Atonement theology …The Depravity of Man theory is totally in play there because it's so obvious how can't you see it. But when I look at this I see Divine Child Abuse with Frodo as the christ because of what he has to do at the hand of Aragorn and later at the hands of the council. I see this as a clear example of Penal Substution

I see that Christ (Frodo) by his own choice was punshied in place of the sinners, (those who in the great battle didn't do more to take the ring from Sauron and later from his uncle). Frodos actions in the quest with the ring and the substutionary nature of Frodos journey and destruction of the ring now takes the place of all the failings of everyone who came before.  Also, with Aragorn needing to return to the throne of Gondor, even though he'd not the one whos demanding the justice, he is demanding that the ring is destroyed to save mankind. He acccepts (is satisyfied) at Frodos sacrifice and then is able to justly (forgive) take the Throne of Gondor.

Bu, I also … see that we could do this as random theory too …. Ransom theory is pretty much PawnShop theology. it says that the death of Christ was the ransom paid to the Devil for satisfaction of his just claim on the souls of humanity as a result of that origional sin and the fall of the watchers. We're taking something like souls/people to the devils pawnshop and saying that we'll come back later and be reclamed for the light. So, we're putting them on a shelf to wait to be redeemed. If the person doesn't come, then the devil makes out because he gets more than what he invested to begin with. However, Christ comes (frodo) (Eragon from the inheritance cycle) and he offers himself in the place of all of the other people suffereing on the shelf waiting for their redemption for the actions during the 2nd battle of Middle earth. However, Frodo doesn't die but he has to leave Middle earth forever, (just like Eragon has to leave Algaesea forever). the only problem is that I need to make the position of the devil in this be either Sauron or Sauromon and that doesn't really feel right to me somehow. also, same thing goes for the placement in the other book I keep mentioning. Im still fleshing it out…

… I was thinking that I would do a contrasting paper to present to a conference on that other position … but I've been so addicted to the inheritance cycle I thought maybe I should do a presentation on that instead because I think there would be less to compete with since the series just finished LAST TUESDAY!!!!! The thing is, this series is a lot like LOTR, so there would be a lot of symalarities … I should be able to just compare the two series Theologically and have a great paper if thats what I want to do … but so many people have done LOTR I get a little worried.

I'm still trying to work it out… I have so little faith and belief in myself it's sick sometimes. this would be my first religion thing since I graduated school… since my Masters … it would be nice to get out there …

Today was suppose to be my day off and here I am already up for an hour thinking about this … I wonder what to do …
